SINUS LIFT

SINUS LIFT

A certain bone volume is necessary for the insertion of dental implants. With time and after extraction, bone loss occurs. As a result, the height of the upper jaw is reduced which is necessary for the insertion of the implant. If the implant needs to be inserted in that place, the volume of the bone has to be grafted. This is when a sinus lift is done. The implant can be inserted during the sinus lift if it is possible.

After the sinus lift, the artificial bone and the implant are placed between the maxillary sinus membrane and the outer part of the maxilla. It is a routine and painless procedure after which there might be slight swelling which goes down within 3-4 days.

The sinus lift uses an artificial material, artificial bone or the patient’s bone which is taken from the lower jaw (chin) or the descending side of the mandible. Autotransplant is also used in the combination with the patient’s blood plasma extracted with the PRGF technology.
